RSS FAQs

What is RSS?
RSS means Really Simple Syndication. People use RSS to track when new things happen on websites they like. It's the most convenient way of keeping track of all your favourite websites - without having to visit them first. The news comes to you. Icarus Films' RSS feeds will let you know every time we release a new title or update a particular web page you are interested in, without cluttering your email inbox.

For instance if you want to know whenever we change our home page with a new feature or film, subscribe to the Home Page RSS feed, if you want to know whenever we release ANY new film, subscribe to the New Releases page RSS feed, or if you want to know only when we release a new film in one or more particular subject areas that you are interested in, subscribe to the RSS feeds from the corresponding subject index pages.

How does it work?
Before you can use RSS you need to get a little piece of software called a News Reader, Feed Reader, or Aggregator. If you are using the free Firefox web browser, you can control your RSS feeds through the bookmarks menu. If not, there are many different Readers you can download that will work with your browser or alone.

See also, the Wikipedia article on News aggregators.

After you have a News Reader, you can click on the XML buttons to get a web address (URL) that you insert in your Reader. Once it's set up, you just sit back and enjoy the live updates.

For more information about RSS, make sure you read the help pages of your chosen Reader.
