film still

There is talk of revolution in the conversation between Polish philosopher Leszek Kolakowski and Marxist sociologist and philosopher Henri Lefebvre -perhaps the most overtly political of the debates in this collection.

Both men are former Communist Party members and they examine the role of Marxism and Marx's concept of alienation in creating a new consciousness and reorganizing society. A fascinating conversation on automation and its implications ensues - one in which Lefebvre is quite prescient on the notion of the increasing urbanization of the globe, and the rise of a society in which total surveillance through computers is a very real possibility.
