Lord Glenconner (aka Colin Tennant) is a Scottish lord who bought a tiny Caribbean island in 1956 for a song and turned it into a playground for the rich and famous, including Mick Jagger, David Bowie, and Tennant's lifelong pal, Princess Margaret (for whom his wife is a Lady-in-waiting). Long gone from Mustique, Tennant's return to his erstwhile kingdom is filled with gossip about its current inhabitants ("smug, small-minded people, mostly rather inept"), preparations for lunch with Princess Margaret (complete with Kama Sutra wall-hangings), and best of all, endless hissy fits at the filmmakers and other inept commoners. Hilarious, pathetic, sly and charming, Lord Glenconner may be one man's argument for reviving the guillotine and another's swan song for "this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England."
