film stillFor some business or government employees, there comes a time when the recognition of malfeasance, corruption or other wrongdoing demands that they take a moral and ethical stand and speak truth to power. These "whistleblowers" often decide to do so despite the risks to their careers, families, friends, or even their lives.

ON THE SIDE OF "ANGELS" tells the stories of several prominent "whistleblowers" around the world, including Sherron Watkins, a Vice President of Corporate Development who helped uncover the accounting fraud at Enron; Glenn Walp, former Security Officer at Los Alamos National Laboratory who exposed corruption and theft at the national security facility; Joseph Mangan, an American aviation engineer who informed European authorities of safety violations in the manufacture of the new Airbus A380 airliner; Jean-Luc Touly, an employee of Veolia Water, who exposed financial fraud in the French national firm; and Adamo Bove, Head of Security at Telecom Italia, who uncovered a secret bugging system installed in cell phones worldwide.

Political science professor and author William Weaver discusses the psychological profile of typical "whistleblowers," and the extent to which they will go to live up to their own moral code. The film recounts the heroic efforts of each of the principals and the consequences of their actions, from losing their jobs and being persecuted by their former employers to dying under mysterious circumstances.

The film makes clear that in order to protect the public interest, these courageous individuals, despite being "on the side of the angels," must pay a heavy personal price to expose government or corporate fraud and corruption.
