The "Peace Ribbon" is a creation of South African mothers, black and white, to protest the inequities that plagued their country. Originally banded against the conscription of their sons into the South African army, these women sewed, drew, or painted their visions into the Ribbon, which at filming was 500 meters and growing.
Supported by South African organizations including the End Conscription Campaign and the Black Sash, the Ribbon was displayed wherever women gathered in defiance of South Africa's brutal internal policies, making known their willingness to fight for justice in their country. THE RIBBON follows the journey of the Peace Ribbon over eight months, offering perspectives that were rarely seen during the apartheid years - those of South Africa's women.
