Part of the MOROCCO, BODY AND SOUL series of half hour films which present various musical genres being performed in the environments which fostered them, all the while giving viewers a window into the diverse components which comprise Moroccan society.

Fatna bent El Hocine is a "cheika," a female troubadour who travels with dancers and musicians, and performs at religious ceremonies, marriages, and circumcisions. She sings of disappointed love and abandoned women in mystical outbursts - the "aita" - which have undertones of nearby Spain. Sometimes a stadium replaces the Bedouin tent, and amplifiers allow her a larger audience. Regardless of the setting, when Fatna bent El Hocine throws herself into the "aita," the impact is fantastic.

"Wonderful scenes of Sufi brotherhood performance and hints of a special relationship between these performers and the men and women they come in contact with." - Choice
